چکیده

Background The accurate assessment of arterial blood flow is crucial for the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiovascular disease. Our aim was to systematically compare three phase-contrast (PC) MRI sequences for the quantification of aortic hemodynamics, including: 1) 2D time-resolved (CINE) PC MRI with one-directional through-plane (2D-1dir) velocity encoding; 2) 2D CINE PC MRI with three-directional (2D-3dir) velocity encoding; 3) 4D flow MRI with full volumetric coverage of the aorta and three-directional velocity encoding.

Comparison of 4D flow and 2D PC MRI blood flow quantification in children and young adults with congenital heart disease

Background Echocardiography (echo) is the primary imaging modality for assessment of aortic and pulmonary blood flow velocities. 2D phase contrast (PC) MRI provides better access to all segments of the aortic and pulmonary system and is considered the standard for evaluating blood flow. Both techniques are limited by velocity analysis in 2D planes and by single-direction velocity measurement wh...

4D flow jet shear layer detection method for the measurement of effective orifice area and assessment of aortic stenosis severity

Background Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common cause of valve replacement and its severity is mainly assessed by transthoracic Doppler echocardiography (TTE) to quantify valve effective orifice area (EOA) as determined by the continuity equation. In a previous study we demonstrated that EOA can be directly determined with 2D flow MRI downstream of the AS using the jet shear layer detection ...

Noninvasive pressure measurement with 4D phase contrast MRI in patients with aortic coarctations

Background Aortic coarctation (CoA) is defined as a congenital narrowing of the descending thoracic aorta severe enough to create pressure gradient. In clinical routine, invasive catheter pressure measurements are considered the gold standard. Pressure gradients can also be estimated noninvasively from Doppler ultrasound (US) or 2D phase contrast (PC) MRI using a simplified Bernoulli equation [...

Hemodynamic evaluation in patients with transposition of the great arteries after the arterial switch operation: 4D flow and 2D phase contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance compared with Doppler echocardiography

BACKGROUND Peak velocity measurements are used to evaluate the significance of stenosis in patients with transposition of the great arteries after the arterial switch operation (TGA after ASO). 4D flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) provides 3-directional velocity encoding and full volumetric coverage of the great arteries and may thus improve the hemodynamic evaluation in these patien...

4D flow imaging with MRI.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an important tool for the clinical evaluation of patients with cardiovascular disease. Since its introduction in the late 1980s, 2-dimensional phase contrast MRI (2D PC-MRI) has become a routine part of standard-of-care cardiac MRI for the assessment of regional blood flow in the heart and great vessels. More recently, time-resolved PC-MRI with veloci...
